# Start by role

> Role-based onboarding paths for lease admins, store development teams, and IT reviewers.

Pick the path that matches your job. Each route connects quickstart steps to the workflows teams actually run.

New to Surfaice? Read [What is Surfaice?](/concepts/what-is-surfaice) first — it defines **Hugo** (the agent you chat with), **skills** (named workflows), and **connectors** (links to your systems).

**Terms used below:** **CAM** = common area maintenance. A **punch walk** is a field walkthrough that logs incomplete construction items before store opening. **Apps** are guided review screens for high-stakes outputs — see [Apps & automations](/skills/apps-and-automations).

## Lease administration & property management

**You run lease abstractions, CAM reviews, critical dates, and portfolio Q\&A.**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Day 1 — Sign in and ask one lease question">
    Complete [Quickstart](/quickstart), then ask Hugo a concrete question: *"What are the renewal options for store 1842?"* or *"Summarize critical dates this quarter for the Northeast portfolio."*
  </Step>

  <Step title="Day 2 — Connect your mailbox (if approved)">
    Lease work often arrives by email. Connect Outlook only if your role allows it. See [Connectors](/guides/connectors).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Day 3 — Run lease abstraction on a known-good PDF">
    Open the lease-abstraction skill (or the document-abstraction App if your workspace has it) on a lease your team has already abstracted manually. Compare Hugo's output field by field. See [Lease abstraction](/guides/lease-abstraction).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Day 4 — CAM or critical-dates workflow">
    Ask Hugo to review a recent CAM reconciliation letter for disputes, or to list key dates for the next 90 days. Skills for these workflows are listed under [Lease & portfolio](/skills/lease-and-portfolio).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Day 5 — Share a reviewed draft">
    Export or save only what you have verified. Teach teammates which citations you checked.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Store development & construction

**You coordinate permits, projects, field punch walks, and opening handoffs.**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Day 1 — Confirm workspace and store context">
    Sign in, open your customer workspace, and ask Hugo for status on one active store number you know well.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Day 2 — Connect SharePoint or project tools">
    Link the sites and folders your IT team approved. Hugo reads what you can already open.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Day 3 — Run a construction or permit workflow">
    Ask Hugo about delayed permits, change orders, or program status for a store — or open the matching skill if your workspace lists one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Day 4 — Punch walk or closeout (if enabled)">
    Field punch walks work best with a clear store number and section order. When Hugo asks compliance questions, use the on-screen checklist rather than typing long freeform answers. See [Construction & closeout](/use-cases/construction-and-closeout).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Day 5 — Hand off open items to operations">
    Summarize open punch or change-order items for facilities. Link [Operations](/use-cases/operations) workflows.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## IT, security & compliance

**You evaluate access, data handling, and vendor risk before rollout.**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Review permissions inheritance">
    Read [Permissions](/concepts/permissions) — Surfaice does not expand entitlements beyond connected systems.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review data flow and audit">
    See [Data handling](/concepts/data-handling) and [Audit trail](/concepts/audit-trail).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review trust FAQ">
    Common procurement questions: [Trust FAQ](/concepts/trust-faq).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Request NDA package">
    Security Guide, architecture diagram, and AI governance policy via [security@surfaice.pro](mailto:security@surfaice.pro). Live summary: [surfaice.pro/security](https://www.surfaice.pro/security).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pilot with one connector and one role">
    Scope one lease-admin or SharePoint connector to a single business unit before tenant-wide rollout.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Program leaders & executives

**You need portfolio visibility, not day-to-day abstraction.**

* Start with [Portfolio & renewals](/use-cases/portfolio-and-renewals) and [Reporting skills](/skills/reporting)
* Ask for rollups with explicit scope: region, landlord, or date window
* For large portfolio maps or dashboards, request **coverage** — how many stores or leases were included — not just a pretty preview
